Spaceballs 2 Takes Aim at the Disney Era of Star Wars

Since its announcement, every update on *Spaceballs: The New One* has been a hilarious parody in its own right. The cast reveal playfully spoofed the iconic *The Force Awakens* cast photo. When it was announced that the sequel to the 1987 classic wouldn’t be titled *Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money*, a video featuring Mel Brooks humorously declared he had already found the money. Now, Amazon MGM Studios has shared the film’s official description, and it’s just as amusing as you’d expect.

Although *Spaceballs: The New One* won’t hit theaters until April 23, 2027, Amazon MGM is gearing up for a Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con next weekend, and the description has been unveiled ahead of that event. Here it is:

Somehow, Dark Helmet has returned! Forty years after the original *Spaceballs*, fifty years after *Star Wars: A New Hope*, and one year after *The Devil Wears Prada 2*, the galaxy faces a new threat. This menace is so evil, so unstoppable, and so devoid of original ideas that it’s determined to resurrect the past… every last bit of it.

With Lone Starr in hiding, Queen Vespa reigning, and the Schwartz stretched thinner than a franchise releasing TV episodes theatrically, the galaxy’s only hope lies with Vespa’s unruly son, Prince Starburst, and a mysterious palace advisor named Destiny. Together, they must track down Lone Starr, Yogurt, and any other beloved legacy characters fans are clamoring for before they learn the hard way that, while some threats can be fought, a reboot is not one of them.

From the very first line, *Spaceballs: The New One* takes a jab at Disney’s era of *Star Wars*. The infamous line from 2019’s *Rise of Skywalker*, “Somehow, Palpatine returned,” quickly became a meme representing fans’ frustrations with the sequel trilogy’s conclusion. Fans have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with how the Disney era has handled the galaxy far, far away. While there have been some standout moments, like the Disney Plus series *Andor*, they seem few and far between. *Spaceballs: The New One* capitalizes on this easy target to generate excitement and demonstrate that, even before its release, the film’s parody will live up to its predecessor. Perhaps fans will even discover how Dark Helmet made his comeback in a *Fortnite* event.

Alongside the description, Amazon MGM Studios also dropped a trailer for *Spaceballs: The New One*, which is also a joke. A beloved scene from the original *Spaceballs* features henchmen using giant literal hair combs to comb a dessert. Those same soldiers, who had little luck in the previous film, are back, this time using a comb to write out the number two.

*Spaceballs: The New One* will see the return of Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, George Wyner, and Mel Brooks, joined by a supporting cast that includes Keke Palmer and Lewis Pullman (who will portray his real father’s on-screen son). Josh Greenbaum (*Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar*) will direct.

It may not be called *Spaceballs: The Search for More Money*, but it certainly should be.
