Split Fiction Studio Begins Development on Upcoming Game

We don’t have a lot of details about what Hazelight’s next big project will be, but I can share two key points. First, it’s currently in development. Second, like their previous titles, it will utilize motion-captured actors.

On February 10, Hazelight’s founder and director posted a tweet featuring an image that simply states, “Next game in the making.” In the photo, he’s seen in a cozy sweater, giving a thumbs-up alongside actors dressed in motion capture suits. Interestingly, his arm is positioned to hide the actors’ faces, suggesting he wants to keep the cast under wraps for now as they work on the follow-up to the 2025 hit co-op adventure.

“Split Fiction is the best-received game we have done; everybody is super happy, but I’m so fully focused and excited on the next thing that we’ve already started,” he mentioned during a podcast in March 2025. At that time, he noted that the new game was still in its early stages, primarily filled with ideas. “[It’s] mostly in the story, what’s going to happen, but a little bit in gameplay as well. It’s kind of like, ‘this is where we start, this is where we’re going.’”

Fast forward nearly a year, and it looks like Hazelight has made significant strides on the sequel to Split Fiction. Will it reach the same heights as their hugely popular co-op game about two authors navigating a VR simulation? I can’t say for sure, but if it turns out to be another creative and enjoyable co-op puzzle-action experience that I can dive into with my partner over a couple of weeks, I’ll be there on launch day, no doubt about it.
