Split Fiction’s game director shares insights on the initial script for the upcoming movie adaptation.
Split Fiction’s game director, Josef Fares, has shared an exciting update regarding the film adaptation, revealing that he’s had discussions with star Sydney Sweeney.
“I received the first draft of the script today, but you know how Hollywood is. I usually say, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it,'” Fares mentioned in a conversation with a Swedish outlet.
He also spoke about his meeting with Sweeney, describing her as “super chill” and noting that she’s “hyped” about the project.
The film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, known for Wicked, with the script being crafted by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind Deadpool and Wolverine. So far, Sweeney is the only cast member confirmed, and her specific role remains under wraps.
Split Fiction is a cooperative game that immerses players in the lives of a fantasy author and a sci-fi writer who find themselves trapped in the very worlds they’ve created, all due to a machine attempting to siphon their ideas.
The game was a phenomenal success upon its release in March 2025, selling a million copies within the first two days, leading to the announcement of the movie adaptation just two weeks later. The game received a stellar 4.5-star review, highlighting it as an “expertly crafted cooperative experience” that “masterfully blends two genres and continually introduces innovative concepts.”
As of now, the Split Fiction movie does not have a release date. While we await further news, there are plenty of other upcoming video game adaptations to keep an eye on.
