Square Enix Allows Players to Completely Disable Elliot’s Annoying Fairy in Adventures of Elliot
When I checked out The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, one of my main issues was the incessant chatter from Faie, the fairy companion. It seems I’m not alone in this sentiment, as many other players and critics have echoed similar frustrations about her high-pitched, non-stop dialogue. Now that the game has been out for three weeks, the developers have finally responded by giving us the option to mute her completely.
In a recent update released on Steam, they introduced a feature that allows players to “turn off support character voice,” which is just a fancy way of saying you can silence Faie. Initially, there was no plan to include such an option, but after a fan feedback survey following the game’s demo, it became clear that players were already a bit overwhelmed by the chatty companion. For the launch, the team did add a setting to adjust “Partner Chattiness” to “Reticent,” intended to reduce Faie’s dialogue. I’ve tried both settings, and while it did help a bit, I wouldn’t exactly call the new setting “reticent.”
Producer Naofumi Matsushita mentioned that since they had been involved in the game’s development for so long, they had grown quite fond of Faie, which may have led to some bias in her design.
I can see where he’s coming from. Personally, I think muting her entirely is a bit of a bummer too. Faie does have some interesting insights at times—she comments on the dungeons, points out treasures, and reflects on cutscenes. Plus, I enjoy her cheering me on after I pull off a long combo without taking damage. However, I really don’t need her exclaiming, “Splish splash, and away you go!” every time I jump into water or reminding me to use my shield after I get hit. Surely, there’s a balance to strike between complete silence and constant chatter.
In any case, having more options is generally a win. If you prefer a quieter adventure, you can now enjoy that with the latest update.
