Stalker 2 to Launch Free Major Story Update Tomorrow
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is set to receive a significant free update on December 16, introducing fresh story content and a new weapon to GSC Game World’s expansive open-world shooter. According to a recent announcement, the Stories Untold update will take players to the western section of the Chornobyl Anomalous Zone after they intercept an emergency transmission. This new area will include seven locations, six characters, and several hours of additional gameplay. Players are encouraged to explore the Red Forest region, using their instincts and logic to uncover the depths of this irradiated environment. Notable spots in the Red Forest include the Fairy Tale Pioneer Camp and the Old Mine, which are expected to be intriguing for players.
In addition to the existing arsenal of over 30 weapons, the update will introduce the GP37V2 rifle, designed for players who excel in tactical gameplay. This weapon offers burst and single-shot firing modes, comes with a suppressor, and features a low-magnification scope. GSC Game World emphasizes that while the stakes are higher, skilled players can leverage the GP37V2’s precision and power effectively.
The update will also introduce a new hub in the Burnt Forest area, where players can interact with NPCs and store items. Existing locations will see a resurgence of other Stalkers, adding to the dynamic world. Earlier this year, the development team shared insights into the challenges faced during Stalker 2’s creation, including the impact of Russia’s invasion and an office fire that complicated their plans. Despite these hurdles, Stalker 2 achieved impressive sales, reaching 1 million copies shortly after its November 2024 launch, and was recognized as one of the top games of 2024. Following its release, GSC Game World focused on refining the game, implementing over 1,200 changes in a March update that enhanced various aspects, from combat to performance. The game was optimized for PS5 and launched on that platform on November 20, 2025.
