STALKER 2’s first major expansion is set to launch soon.

GSC Game World has revealed that the first major expansion for STALKER 2 is set to launch on August 20. Alongside this, players can also look forward to a significant free 2.0 update for the base game on the same day.

Titled Cost of Hope, the expansion was introduced with a new trailer that hints at its exciting features. This marks the first major DLC for the survival horror shooter since its debut in 2024. In Cost of Hope, players will step into the shoes of Skif, who is drawn by a mysterious signal into previously unreachable areas of the Zone, the game’s post-apocalyptic landscape.

The expansion’s synopsis suggests that the ongoing struggle between the Duty and Freedom factions has intensified. Skif will face critical choices as he navigates the new Iron Forest and the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. GSC Game World promises that Cost of Hope will deliver dozens of hours of gameplay, along with new weapons, gear, and enemies.

For those who may not dive into Cost of Hope right away, August 20 will still be a day of excitement. The entire game will be upgraded from Unreal Engine 5.1 to 5.5.4, and the free update will introduce additional content for the base game, with more details to be shared as the release date approaches.

When we first explored the expansive world of STALKER 2 at launch, we found much to appreciate, even if some systems needed refinement. Fast forward two years, and GSC Game World has been diligently enhancing STALKER 2. The simultaneous release of Cost of Hope and the free 2.0 update represents significant milestones in the game’s ongoing evolution.

A small beacon of hope in a turbulent industry.
