Star Trek: Shadow Frontier Unveils a New Thriller Set in the Next Generation Era from the Creators of Silent Hill 2 Remake

Bloober Team, known for their work on titles like Silent Hill 2 and Cronos: The New Dawn, is venturing into the cosmos with their latest project. Recently, they unveiled Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a new psychological thriller set in the iconic Star Trek universe.

This game brings back a familiar face for fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation—Ro Laren, the Bajoran officer who often found herself at odds with Starfleet. Michelle Forbes reprises her role as Ro in this new adventure.

The storyline of Star Trek: Shadow Frontier unfolds on an uncharted planet where Ro crash-lands after responding to a distress signal. This mysterious world is described as a “spaceship graveyard where nothing is as it seems.” As Ro navigates the planet’s corrupted landscape and encounters other survivors, she must confront twisted creatures, a hostile environment, and a malevolent entity that threatens to consume her mind and body.

A teaser trailer for the game raises more questions than it answers, but the idea of Bloober Team diving back into sci-fi after their previous works is certainly intriguing. While Star Trek has occasionally explored themes of psychological horror, Shadow Frontier aims to deliver a fresh and thrilling experience.

Shawn Kittelsen, head of creative and production at the studio behind the game, expressed admiration for Bloober Team’s ability to create immersive and atmospheric experiences. He emphasized the importance of collaborating with a studio that respects the Star Trek legacy while also pushing boundaries. Kittelsen is confident that Bloober will deliver a game that honors the franchise while introducing bold new elements.

Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team, shared his excitement about the project, highlighting their lifelong passion for science fiction and their commitment to blending that with their expertise in horror. He expressed hope that the game will honor Star Trek’s legacy while offering a unique and refreshing take on the beloved universe.

In addition to Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, Bloober Team has a busy schedule ahead, including a new asymmetric multiplayer horror game based on the Saw franchise, a remake of the original Silent Hill, and Layers of Fear 3.

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X in 2027.
