It’s been four years since we last saw Luke Skywalker, and fans of Star Wars are feeling the absence. The longing for the iconic Jedi has sparked discussions about potential returns, from animated series to recasting Mark Hamill.

“It’s wild that it’s been over a decade since The Force Awakens, and the most we’ve seen of Luke’s Jedi Temple was just one episode of a Boba Fett spinoff,” one fan noted on Reddit, leading to comments about how disappointing it is that the character feels sidelined.

“It’s disheartening to see the face of Star Wars (not counting Vader) reduced to a background character,” another fan expressed. “I appreciate new characters getting their time, but I just want more Luke.”

“Why not adapt the Marvel comic adventures of Luke, Han, and Leia into animation? They’re great stories. It would be a hit and bring the big three back into the spotlight,” suggested another.

“CAN WE JUST F***ING GET AN ANIMATED SERIES??????” another fan exclaimed. “After 50 years, we still haven’t had a single project focusing on Luke, Leia, or Han outside of books. What’s going on?”

Others echoed the sentiment that a 2D animated series featuring these beloved characters would be a smart move. “Lucasfilm’s animation team has consistently delivered quality content; let them take a shot at this. It could be similar to the Clone Wars, giving us more time with various Padawans as they battle the remnants of the Empire and the rising First Order. I assume it would take place after the Thrawn live-action series wraps up.”

Some fans revisited the idea of casting Sebastian Stan as a younger Luke, a fancasting that has circulated online since late 2017. Their resemblance is striking, but there’s understandable hesitation about anyone other than Hamill stepping into the role after so many years.

“Dear Disney… cast Sebastian Stan as Luke, and create a series or movie about rebuilding the Jedi order. Profit,” one supporter wrote, while another added, “It’s crazy how a talented actor looks so much like him, and even crazier that this hasn’t happened yet!”

Since his controversial demise in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), the only way we might see Hamill’s Luke again is as a Force Ghost in future projects. The last time we saw him, Lucasfilm used digital effects to de-age him, similar to how they treated Peter Cushing’s Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One (2016).

In ‘From the Desert Comes a Stranger’, the sixth episode of The Book of Boba Fett, Jedi Master Luke is shown training Grogu, his first student, in the ways of the Force.
