Star Wars: KOTOR 2 Remake Was Under Development, According to Reports

For a brief moment, it seemed like a complete remake of Obsidian Entertainment’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 was in the works. However, recent reports indicate that the project has been put on hold. According to new legal documents, Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games were collaborating on a full remake of KOTOR 2, codenamed “Juliet.” This modern take on the beloved 2004 RPG was being developed alongside the KOTOR remake, which Saber Interactive has confirmed is still in the pipeline. Unfortunately, unlike the KOTOR remake, development on the KOTOR II remake has reportedly ceased as of March 2025.

Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly shed light on the situation during depositions regarding the KOTOR II remake. He mentioned that if the project had moved forward, it would have included the cut DLC that was hinted at when the game was announced for Nintendo Switch in 2022. Reilly stated, “‘Juliet’ was the codename for a project where we were going to do a full remake of KOTOR II,” emphasizing that it would feature modern art and gameplay while preserving the original story, characters, and overall content. The goal was to update the game for contemporary hardware with enhanced graphics and other improvements, a plan that was actively discussed with Aspyr.

The DLC in question, known as The Sith Lords Restored Content Modification (RCM), was initially a mod that addressed narrative gaps and provided an alternate ending for KOTOR 2. Aspyr had announced that the official DLC would aim to achieve similar goals, including new crew dialogue, an additional mission featuring HK-47, and a “new revamped ending.” However, when KOTOR 2 launched on Nintendo Switch on June 8, 2022, the DLC was notably absent. Reports suggest that Disney’s legal team blocked its release, primarily due to disputes over the mod’s original creators. Now, it seems that the KOTOR 2 remake may not see the light of day either.
