The beloved farming sim Stardew Valley has been captivating players for nearly a decade, and you might think that dedicated fans have uncovered all its secrets. However, developer Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone hints that there’s still one mystery left to discover.
In a recent interview, ConcernedApe revealed, “There’s still a secret that no one has ever found. I don’t think they ever will. Maybe I’ll reveal it someday, but the problem with the secret is that it’s basically a secret message that’s in the game, and it reveals something that actually isn’t even true anymore.”
What could this cryptic message entail? He starts to elaborate but then hesitates, pondering, “Do I want to reveal it or not?” Ultimately, he decides against it, stating, “Well, that’s all I’ll say. I’ll say it was a secret message that was basically announcing something that I actually shifted gears on, and that thing wasn’t even true anymore, but it’s still in the game.” This leaves fans eager to uncover the truth, though it seems unlikely we’ll ever get the full story.
ConcernedApe admits, “I just don’t know if anyone will ever discover it because it’s so obscure.” Given that Stardew Valley is one of the most popular games available on countless platforms, it’s understandable that this secret remains hidden. I can’t help but wonder what misinformation it might relate to—perhaps something from a past update. You can bet I’ll be scouring every corner of the game to find out.
With the 1.7 update on the way, introducing two new marriage candidates, ConcernedApe is set to shake things up even further. How exactly remains a mystery, but knowing his creative flair, we might just stumble upon even more secrets—on top of the one that’s eluded us so far. Plus, with Haunted Chocolatier in development, there’s plenty of that signature ConcernedApe charm to look forward to.
“That’s never going to happen”: ConcernedApe aims to make Stardew Valley “infinitely replayable,” but insists it will be “without the use of AI.”
