Stardew Valley creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone is still hard at work on his beloved farming simulator, now a decade in, with a 1.7 update in the works while also developing Haunted Chocolatier. It seems he has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
In a recent chat, ConcernedApe shared his vision for the game over the next ten years. “In 10 years, there’ll be a few more updates that make the game even more what it’s supposed to be,” he reflects. “With every update, I’m aiming to bring Stardew Valley closer to its ultimate form, fully realized. So hopefully, in 10 years, it will be fully self-actualized.”
What might that look like? “Perhaps new features will be added to enhance its longevity, allowing players to engage more creatively.” He mentioned some concepts he’s considering for 1.7, like a public farm editor that would let players share their custom farms, although he’s uncertain if these ideas will come to fruition.
This feature could provide “almost infinite replayability to Stardew Valley,” which is something he definitely wants for the game (though as a dedicated fan myself, I’d argue it’s already achieved that with over a thousand hours logged).
While he aims for Stardew Valley to be “infinitely replayable,” he emphasizes that this future vision won’t involve AI.
“I’m focused on making the game more replayable without relying on AI,” ConcernedApe states firmly. “That’s never going to happen.” Given the ongoing debates surrounding AI, his stance isn’t surprising, and I’m glad to hear his perspective. Overall, he hopes Haunted Chocolatier will be released soon, and perhaps there will be new developments for Stardew Valley as well. He describes his cherished game as a “gold mine,” stating he has “plenty of ideas” for it—it’s just a matter of time and resources now. The solo developer has previously mentioned he could “keep working on the game forever” and “for the rest of my life,” which aligns with his passion. ConcernedApe even hinted at updates “maybe even 50 years from now” for Stardew Valley before revealing 1.7.
Here’s hoping we see new Stardew Valley updates in a decade or so, along with whatever else he has in store for the “Stardew Valley IP.” I know I’ll be eagerly anticipating it!

Stardew Valley had “many” opportunities to become a movie or TV show, but creator ConcernedApe had his sights set on the legendary director of Twin Peaks: “‘You can do whatever you want, Mr. Lynch.'”
