Starfield’s Upcoming Update Enhances Space Exploration Experience
After months of speculation and sneak peeks, Bethesda has finally unveiled its latest project for the open-world space RPG, Starfield. The upcoming paid expansion, titled Terran Armada, is set to launch on April 7. On the same day, players can also look forward to a substantial free update called Free Lanes, along with the highly anticipated PS5 version of the game.
Bethesda describes Free Lanes as the most significant update since the game’s release. It introduces new weapons, quests, and points of interest, as well as a new vehicle to enhance the gameplay experience.
“Interplanetary exploration is what Free Lanes is all about,” Bethesda states.
The update aims to encourage players to explore space more actively rather than relying solely on fast travel. A new cruise control feature will allow players to step away from the controls while their ship automatically navigates to a chosen destination, with the potential for random events to occur during these journeys.
In addition to improving space exploration, the update will include a shared outpost container, enabling players to easily transfer loot and items across different planets. Players will also have the chance to unlock a friendly alien pet.
Bethesda is introducing a New Game Plus-like feature in Starfield, allowing players to carry over certain items through the universal unity system. Previously, players had to forfeit all their gear and loot to explore a new version of Starfield’s universe.
“The DLC will challenge players to confront a full-on armada,” Bethesda explains. “Your mission involves uncovering their motivations and preventing them from attacking innocent worlds.”
Terran Armada will feature new ships and weapons, including more modern assault rifles and laser weaponry, developed in response to community feedback. The Armada will deploy formidable robot troops to assault planets and spaceships. Additionally, Terrans can block warp travel out of systems, requiring players to navigate to the Armada’s base and neutralize it to resume their journey.
Bethesda has confirmed that Starfield will indeed be available on PlayStation 5 starting April 7, priced at $50, and optimized for PS5 Pro.
Last month, Bethesda’s creative director Todd Howard emphasized that this newly announced major update for Starfield would not be a “2.0” upgrade. Instead, he indicated that it is tailored for existing fans of the game, stating during a podcast appearance, “If you love Starfield, we think you’re going to love this.” Based on the details shared, it seems Howard’s expectations were spot on.
