Steam Controller Sells Out Quickly, But There’s Still a Chance to Get One
If you were hoping to grab a Steam Controller today, you might be out of luck. Valve’s latest PC gamepad went on sale and sold out in about 30 minutes, although it has been popping in and out of stock since then.
This Steam Controller marks Valve’s second attempt at a PC gamepad, following its first effort in 2015. The new model incorporates the haptic trackpads from the Steam Deck into a more traditional gamepad design and introduces features like Grip Sense, a touch-activated gyro control method. Last week, Valve announced that the Steam Controller would be available for order starting today, May 4, priced at $99.
The demand was clearly high. After launching at 1 p.m. EDT, many users encountered Steam errors indicating a “high volume of purchase requests.” Some managed to reach the payment screen but faced errors that prevented them from completing their transactions. Just 30 minutes later, the Steam Controller page showed the product as “out of stock.”
However, there may still be a chance to snag one if you haven’t already. Users have reported that the Steam Controller has been intermittently restocking since the initial sellout. We confirmed this around 2:40 p.m. EDT when we refreshed the page and were able to click the order button, but the next page failed to load, and the controller was out of stock again upon refresh. If you’re eager to get one, keep checking the Steam Controller page throughout the day.
There’s a solid reason why the Steam Controller is in such high demand. In my review, I found it to be an almost perfect PC gamepad. Despite some connectivity limitations, the haptic trackpads and surprisingly comfortable ergonomics make the Steam Controller an excellent choice for anyone in search of a reliable PC controller.
Valve’s new gamepad is competitive with others on the market.
