Steam Players Celebrate as Lords of the Fallen 2 Drops Epic Games Store Exclusivity [Update]
CI Games has just revealed that it has entered into a Separation Agreement with Epic Games, allowing the upcoming sequel, Lords of the Fallen 2, to break free from its exclusivity deal on the Epic Games Store for PC. While the official statement indicates that this agreement won’t impact their ongoing collaboration, it likely means that Lords of the Fallen 2 can now also launch on Steam, a direct competitor to the Epic Games Store.
The Separation Agreement was posted on CI Games’ official website, noting that it took effect on April 14, 2026, although its announcement was delayed to protect the company’s interests. Previously, CI Games had granted Epic exclusive worldwide distribution rights for Lords of the Fallen 2 on June 14, 2024.
The document doesn’t specify the reasons behind the separation, but it does mention that CI Games and Epic will continue to work together on Unreal Engine, Epic online services, and the Fortnite ecosystem. The underlying reason for this split seems clear: releasing on Steam is likely to enhance sales, as many PC gamers primarily use the Epic Games Store for Fortnite and free game promotions.
This announcement contrasts with CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski’s earlier comments, where he suggested that most PC players would purchase exclusive titles on Epic. It remains uncertain how this change will impact Epic’s significant investment in Lords of the Fallen II, which Tyminski previously stated allowed CI Games to maintain full creative control over the game and its intellectual property.
In a recent update, Tyminski expressed gratitude to Epic for their support during the challenging years following the launch of the original Lords of the Fallen in 2023. He acknowledged that the partnership with Epic provided crucial funding and strategic backing, enabling CI Games to enhance the sequel based on community feedback and improve various aspects like gameplay, technical performance, world design, and online features.
However, he confirmed that the exclusivity on the Epic Games Store is no longer in effect, and the Soulslike sequel will now be available on other PC storefronts at launch.
