Steven Spielberg’s alien thriller “Disclosure Day” is now available for streaming.
Steven Spielberg has long been captivated by the cosmos. From the awe-inspiring moments in Close Encounters of the Third Kind to the heartwarming adventure of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, few directors have influenced Hollywood’s portrayal of humanity’s encounters with the unknown as much as he has. Even in War of the Worlds, an adaptation, Spielberg’s fascination with alien life shines through.
Now, his latest venture into the realm of extraterrestrials has made its way from theaters to streaming.
Disclosure Day began streaming exclusively on Peacock on Friday, Oct. 9, offering fans a chance to dive into Spielberg’s latest take on alien conspiracies. The sci-fi epic hit theaters on June 12, where it garnered mostly positive reviews and stood out as one of the summer’s major releases, raking in a solid $244 million globally.
The film follows a group of individuals ensnared in a decades-old conspiracy regarding humanity’s interactions with alien beings.
Josh O’Connor stars as Daniel Kellner, a cybersecurity expert who uncovers information from the powerful corporation Wardex, exposing a nearly 80-year-old government cover-up about alien visitations. As he races to reveal the truth, he finds himself pursued by Wardex agents intent on silencing him.
Meanwhile, Emily Blunt portrays Kansas City meteorologist Margaret Fairchild, who unwittingly becomes part of the conspiracy after broadcasting a message in an alien language. Her journey intersects with Daniel’s, while Colman Domingo’s character, Hugo Wakefield—a former insider and advocate for disclosure—works to help unveil the truth.
The film blends elements of alien contact, conspiracy thriller, and chase narrative. Reviews have noted that Disclosure Day feels reminiscent of Spielberg’s 1980s work, merging the suspense of E.T. with the cosmic allure of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Critics have highlighted the film’s sense of wonder and emotional depth, suggesting it closely aligns with the classic Spielberg formula.
Rather than depicting extraterrestrials solely as a threat, Disclosure Day centers on the notion that the truth about alien life is a shared human experience, and that discovering we are not alone could profoundly alter humanity’s self-perception.
