Street Fighter 6 Community Stunned as Capcom Shuts Down Beloved Resource Site
Players gearing up for their next tournament in Street Fighter 6 are facing a setback with the loss of a valuable community resource. Ultimate Frame Data, a site dedicated to analyzing character hitboxes, has announced it will be removing its SF6 section following a legal request from Capcom.
MetalMusicMan shared the correspondence from Capcom’s legal team, which stated, “We have confirmed that the page contains hitbox and collision-related information for Street Fighter 6 that is not ordinarily visible or accessible through normal gameplay. Accordingly, we kindly request that you review the content in question and consider removing or disabling access to the relevant material by October 30, 2026.” In response, MetalMusicMan decided to take down the SF6 data, expressing on X, “Not my choice, sorry everyone.”
In fighting games, hitboxes are the specific areas of a character’s model that dictate the range and shape of their attacks. While these hitboxes are typically invisible during standard gameplay, they can be revealed through modding. Analyzing hitboxes can significantly enhance a player’s skills, and numerous resources exist for various titles within the fighting game genre. Capcom’s letter asserts that the use of modding tools to access hitbox data is unauthorized, necessitating the removal of this information.
The SF6 community is understandably shocked by Capcom’s decision, especially given the company’s reputation for being supportive of the fighting game community, particularly in contrast to Nintendo, which has a more restrictive stance. Notably, Ultimate Frame Data continues to provide hitbox information for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which remains unaffected for now.
