Street Fighter 6 update will retain incest elements in the game.

On March 17, Capcom’s fighting game Street Fighter 6 introduced a new DLC character, Alex, and players quickly noticed something unsettling about his storyline. After completing Arcade Mode with Alex, players discover that he has married his younger adoptive sister/second cousin, Patricia, and they are expecting a child together.

This twist understandably left many fans feeling uncomfortable due to the incestuous implications of Alex’s narrative. Throughout the series, Alex and Patricia have been portrayed as part of a found family; Alex, orphaned as a child, was taken in by his mother’s cousin Tom, which meant he and Patricia grew up as adoptive siblings. Now, they are set to become parents.

In response to the backlash, Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama took to social media to address the situation. He began by apologizing for any “confusion” surrounding Alex’s storyline and stated, “While we have not changed the characters’ backstories, after internal review by the development team, we plan to revise certain text passages that may have been misleading in the near future.” It appears that Capcom is currently maintaining the incestuous angle.

Nakayama also provided additional context meant to clarify the characters’ emotions and histories. Titled “A Toast Between Fathers,” this piece explains that Alex and Patricia were not always particularly close during their childhood. However, they still remain adoptive siblings and second cousins. The online reception has been largely negative, with one fan creating satirical art to critique Capcom’s choices.

As of now, it’s unclear what specific changes Capcom intends to make to those “certain text passages that may have been misleading.” Speculation suggests that Capcom might revise the relationship dynamics between Alex and Tom to create more distance, but any adjustments will need to effectively address the discomfort stemming from the decision to include an incestuous relationship in the game.
