Street Fighter 6’s New Character Alex Draws Inspiration from Kenny Omega

A familiar face is making a comeback in Street Fighter with the upcoming update on March 17. If you’re into wrestling, you might recognize his moves. Capcom has announced that the high-flying Alex will be the third character added to the third year of content for Street Fighter 6. Alex first burst onto the scene in 1997’s Street Fighter III: New Generation, and this time, he’s being brought to life by none other than former AEW World Champion and acclaimed “best bout machine” Kenny Omega.

Omega and Capcom unveiled this exciting news with a new trailer showcasing Alex’s arrival, featuring a range of Omega’s signature wrestling moves — from the Snap Dragon Suplex to the V-Trigger, culminating in his finishing move, the One-Winged Angel. This collaboration goes beyond mere homage; Omega actually performed the motion capture for Alex, sharing behind-the-scenes photos of his work on social media.

This might surprise AEW fans, especially since Kenny has previously cosplayed as Akuma for an AEW event and even has an action figure commemorating that moment, which is currently on clearance at GameStop.

While Omega’s influence is evident in Alex’s fighting style, Capcom has tweaked some of his signature move names. The One-Winged Angel is now called the Omega Wing Buster, and the V-Trigger has been rebranded as the Aerial Knee Smash. Alex’s moveset also features a powerbomb, a spear, and a variety of rapid strikes to complete his character.

The connection between professional wrestling and Street Fighter doesn’t stop there. The upcoming film adaptation will feature WWE wrestlers Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns portraying Col. Guile and Akuma, respectively, hitting theaters this year. Additionally, Mattel has launched a line of action figures that blend WWE wrestlers with Street Fighter characters.

On March 15, Alex will join the previously released Year 3 characters C. Viper and Sagat across all platforms. The fourth character, Ingrid, is set to arrive in late spring.
