Studio Ghibli Opens Its First U.S. Store, with a Twist

Studio Ghibli is set to launch its first-ever store in the U.S., a pop-up located at Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, California, and it will be available for a limited time only.

Starting June 23, fans can dive into a selection of over 400 items. The store will showcase products from all eras of Studio Ghibli’s beloved films, including classics like My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and the latest release, The Boy and the Heron.

This pop-up is being brought to life by Donguri Republic, the official Studio Ghibli store in Japan. According to the announcement, “Donguri Republic will recreate the warmth and wonder of Studio Ghibli’s storytelling through a beautifully designed retail experience featuring wood-inspired interiors, whimsical displays, and a giant Totoro waiting at a bus stop for the Cat bus.” Images from Donguri Republic locations hint at the enchanting atmosphere that awaits.

While the announcement doesn’t specify all the products available, it does tease a few items. One highlight is a perpetual calendar featuring the iconic railway car scene from Spirited Away, and another is an LED candle featuring Calcifer from Howl’s Moving Castle. Fans can check Donguri Republic’s website for more clues about the merchandise, and we’re crossing our fingers for items like the Princess Mononoke music box to make an appearance.

Shoppers who spend $100 or more will receive a limited-edition Donguri Republic tote bag, and attendees of Studio Ghibli Fest can snag exclusive movie film-style bookmarks.

The pop-up will run for six months, concluding on December 31. For those outside California, Studio Ghibli merchandise is still accessible through other channels, including postcards and notebooks from Chronicle Books.
