Stunning Fantasy FPS Lets You Blast Skeletons to Prevent Game Crashes
For many gamers, consistent performance—free from framerate drops or lag—is crucial to the experience. But what if that performance was the key to survival? Enter FPS Quest, an upcoming first-person shooter that promises a wild ride.
FPS Quest kicks off as a fantasy RPG filled with skeletons and armored knights. After facing defeat one too many times, the main character decides to install some mods, equipping themselves with decidedly non-fantasy weapons like a pistol, an assault rifle, and a shotgun. However, the game wasn’t designed to handle these mods, leading to a chaotic breakdown where FPS Quest transforms into a frantic race against a crashing game that could spell doom for the player.
According to the game’s Steam page, it resembles a roguelike shooter where players navigate through “prebuilt but recombined levels” that become increasingly corrupted and glitchy as they progress. To prevent the game from crashing, players can lower in-game graphics settings, utilize mods to remove geometry, and venture out of bounds into unfinished areas of the game world. It’s a mind-bending concept that has definitely piqued my interest.
The developers emphasize that FPS Quest doesn’t actually run at a lower framerate, which can lead to discomfort; instead, it simulates the experience of playing at low FPS. That’s reassuring to hear. While there’s no release date yet, I’ve already added it to my wishlist and am eagerly anticipating the chance to dive in.
