Subnautica 2 Set for May Release Amid Ongoing Legal Issues
In the midst of the ongoing legal issues surrounding Subnautica 2, developer Unknown Worlds has finally shared a release window for the highly anticipated underwater adventure. Reports indicate that the game is set to enter Early Access in May, although a specific date has yet to be announced.
Steve Papoutsis, head of Unknown Worlds, expressed that both the studio and its partner are confident that Subnautica 2 is ready for players. This sentiment echoes earlier comments from former director Charlie Cleveland, who mentioned last July that the team felt the game was primed for an early access release, even as the legal troubles began to unfold.
Recently, a judge ruled that Krafton must reinstate Ted Gill, the CEO of Unknown Worlds, after his dismissal last summer. The ruling also emphasized that Krafton should not interfere with Gill’s authority regarding the early access launch of Subnautica 2.
Papoutsis conveyed optimism about collaborating with Gill to ensure a smooth transition and a successful launch. He highlighted the team’s efforts in developing new story chapters, creatures, and biomes to prepare Subnautica 2 for its Early Access debut.
In a separate statement, Krafton acknowledged the developers’ significant progress following a recent milestone review. However, the company expressed disagreement with the court’s ruling, reiterating its commitment to an open development process that involves close collaboration with the community as they work towards delivering the best experience for players.
Subnautica 2 is set to launch into Early Access in May for Windows PC and Xbox Series X, while Krafton’s legal disputes related to the firings from 2025 continue.
