Sugar Season 2 Sets Release Date, Welcomes The Flash Star to Join Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell’s detective series, Sugar, is making its return soon, with Apple TV confirming that season 2 will premiere on June 19. This upcoming season will feature eight new episodes, showcasing Farrell’s LA-based Private Investigator as he tackles a fresh case.

In the first season, viewers followed John Sugar as he unraveled the mystery behind the disappearance of a beloved granddaughter of a prominent Hollywood producer, uncovering some dark secrets along the way. We won’t spoil anything for those who haven’t caught up yet, but the season is packed with a major plot twist that intertwines crime thriller elements with science fiction.

The new season will see Sugar diving into a new investigation, focusing on “tracking the troubled older brother of an up-and-coming local boxer as he continues his search for his beloved missing sister,” according to the official synopsis. “As the investigation unfolds into a city-wide conspiracy with sinister motives, Sugar must confront his own limits to answer the question – how far will he go to do what’s right?”

Joining Farrell in the cast for season 2 are Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, and Sasha Calle, with Shea Whigham appearing as a guest star. Sam Catlin serves as the showrunner, while Mark Protosevich is the creator.

In an exclusive interview, Farrell expressed his surprise at the script, noting, “My first reaction was that it was just a little bit different. I hadn’t had the opportunity to read anything like it ever. The character felt quite unique as it explored the noir genre. The narrative, the style, and the Los Angeles setting all contributed to the idea of the central character being a private detective.”

He added, “Despite getting caught up in violence, John Sugar has a disdain for it. Even though he’s faced some of the darker sides of humanity through trafficking and kidnapping, he maintains an unyielding sense of hope and belief in the goodness of people, which I found really sweet and engaging.”

Sugar is set to debut on Apple TV Plus on June 19.
