Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s Upgrade for Switch 2 is More Significant Than You Realize

A fresh trailer for Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park has dropped, showcasing exciting new features and confirming a release date of March 26, along with special amiibo figures. This enhanced version of the game introduces new characters, expanded multiplayer options, and various quality of life improvements.

Initially unveiled during a Nintendo Direct last year as part of Mario’s 40th-anniversary festivities, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park stands out from other Switch 2 releases by offering more than just improved performance and graphics. It focuses heavily on enhancing the multiplayer experience, featuring Bellabel Park filled with new minigames for players to enjoy with friends and family.

The trailer highlights two main areas in Bellabel Park: the Local Multiplayer Plaza and the Game Room Plaza. The Local Multiplayer Plaza supports up to four players in either versus or co-op modes across 17 attractions, and thanks to GameShare, only one player needs to own the game. The Game Room Plaza is designed for local wireless or online play, allowing everyone to use their own system, and it includes six attractions. Local wireless play accommodates up to eight players, while online play can host up to 12.

In Toad Brigade Training Camp, up to four players can tackle special objectives, such as collecting a set number of coins within a time limit, using courses from the main game. As players advance, they can climb the ranks of the brigade, striving to become Elite Explorers. Additionally, players can challenge the seven Koopalings, who have absconded with Bellabel Park’s treasure and are hiding throughout the Flower Kingdom.

A major highlight is the inclusion of Rosalina, who, along with her companion Luma, is now playable in all modes. When there are two or more players, Luma can be selected as a support character, flying around levels to collect coins and defeat enemies without taking damage. For added convenience, Luma can also be controlled using the Switch 2’s mouse. Furthermore, players can opt for Assist Mode, allowing them to navigate levels as any character without taking damage, with automatic rescues from falls.

One intriguing new feature teased in the trailer is a flower-themed power-up. Briefly shown at the end, Mario is seen picking up a flower, donning a floral outfit, and launching flowery discs into the air.

The game is set to launch on March 26, accompanied by three new amiibo: Elephant Mario, Poplin & Prince Florian, and Captain Toad & Talking Flower. Existing players can purchase an upgrade pack to access the new features, with preorders starting today, January 22.
