Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke has confirmed that Larian won’t be creatively involved in the upcoming Baldur’s Gate HBO series, but noted that show creator Craig Mazin has reached out.

In response to a fan’s question about Larian writers consulting on the show, Vincke stated on Twitter, “Not to my knowledge. But Craig did reach out to ask if he could come over to the studio to speak with us. From our conversation, I think he [truly] is a big fan, which gives me hope.”

This seems genuine: In a 2025 interview with BAFTA, Mazin mentioned that Baldur’s Gate 3 is his favorite game of all time, though he acknowledged “recency bias” might play a role.

“Just in terms of how much time I’ve put into it – and continue to put into it – it’s really high up there.”

For those curious, Mazin also shared his typical Baldur’s Gate 3 party: Shadowheart, Lae’zel, and Gale.

“Although in some runs, just for romance purposes, Karlach,” Mazin added. “It’s the most wholesome romance.” No updates yet on whether he has started a Durge run.

From its initial announcement, we know the Baldur’s Gate TV show will continue from the ending of Baldur’s Gate 3, likely featuring a cast of beloved characters from the iconic RPG. Mazin is set to be the writer and showrunner for the HBO adaptation.
