Switch 2 Could Have an Exciting 2026 with New Star Fox and Zelda Titles, Even Without Mario

What does the second half of the Switch 2’s 2026 lineup look like? Recent rumors suggest that Nintendo is developing a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and a new Star Fox game that harks back to the classic style. However, fans eager for a new 3D Mario platformer will reportedly have to wait until 2027.

On March 27, a well-known leaker shared insights about Nintendo’s upcoming releases for the Switch 2 during a podcast. Another source has since confirmed similar information, indicating that a new “classic” Star Fox game is on the horizon. This title is expected to launch shortly after Fox McCloud makes an appearance in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie, set to debut in April. This will mark the first new Star Fox game since the rail-shooter Star Fox Zero, which was released on Wii U in 2016.

“Star Fox is making a comeback in summer 2026,” the leaker stated. “We’re getting a new Star Fox game very soon, and it’s said to be in the classic style.” They also mentioned that the visuals are reportedly impressive and that the new Star Fox will feature online multiplayer.

Additionally, the leaker and the other source confirmed that the next 3D Mario platformer won’t be arriving in 2026, but will instead launch on Switch 2 in 2027. This is disappointing, especially since the last new 3D Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey, was essentially a launch title for the original Switch back in 2017. This means there could be a decade-long gap between that game and the next 3D Mario title.

However, there’s good news for Nintendo fans looking forward to the holidays this year. A significant remake of the Nintendo 64 classic, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, is reportedly set to release later this year to celebrate the franchise’s 40th anniversary.

“What I can share with you today is that in the second half of 2026, as we approach the holidays, we are going to receive an Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2,” the leaker revealed.

Nintendo has been contacted regarding these plans. If these rumors hold true, the Switch 2 is poised for a strong 2026 lineup, even without a new, next-gen exclusive Mario game.
