Sydney Sweeney’s 2025 erotic thriller officially lands a streaming date on HBO Max.

October is shaping up to be an exciting month for fans of erotic thrillers. Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson are set to shine in Michael Showalter’s adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel, *Verity*, which hits theaters on October 2. For those who prefer to enjoy their steamy films from the comfort of home, *The Housemaid* will also make its streaming debut on HBO Max this month.

Originally released in December 2025, *The Housemaid* garnered mostly positive reviews and achieved impressive box office success, raking in $400 million against a $35 million budget. It became available on VOD on February 3 and saw a physical release on March 17.

The story follows Millie Calloway (Sydney Sweeney), who, after serving a decade in prison, is eager to find work to fulfill her parole requirements. She lands a job as a housekeeper in a Long Island mansion, where she lives with Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), his pregnant wife Nina (Amanda Seyfried), and their daughter Cece (Indiana Elle). As Millie and Nina get to know each other, tensions escalate. Nina becomes envious of the time Millie spends with her husband, while Millie grows increasingly anxious about Nina’s unpredictable and violent mood swings.

Directed by Paul Feig (known for *Ghostbusters* and *Bridesmaids*) and penned by Rebecca Sonnenshine (*The Boys*), the film is based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 New York Times bestselling novel.

Following *The Housemaid*, McFadden released two sequels: *The Housemaid’s Secret* and *The Housemaid Is Watching*. In January, it was announced that Feig, Sonnenshine, and Sweeney will return for the adaptation of *The Housemaid’s Secret*. The upcoming streaming release on HBO Max is a perfect opportunity to catch up before Millie embarks on a new journey, helping a woman confront her abusive husband.

*The Housemaid* will start streaming on HBO Max on October 9.

Sydney Sweeney’s 2021 erotic thriller is set to attract a fresh audience nearly five years after its initial streaming launch.
