Sydney Sweeney’s thriller The Housemaid is set for a sequel following its impressive $133 million box office success.
Less than three weeks after the release of The Housemaid, a sequel to the Sydney Sweeney-led thriller has officially been confirmed.
Adapted from Freida McFadden’s novel, The Housemaid tells the story of Millie (Sweeney), a woman with a troubled past who becomes a live-in housemaid for a wealthy family harboring their own dark secrets. Amanda Seyfried portrays her employer, Nina Winchester.
The film has performed well at the box office, raking in $133 million globally against a budget of $35 million since its December 19 release. While reviews have been mixed, it currently boasts a Certified Fresh score of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The upcoming sequel will draw from McFadden’s follow-up novel, The Housemaid’s Secret, where Millie takes on a new job with another family. Sweeney and her co-star Michele Morrone, who played the groundskeeper Enzo, will reprise their roles, alongside director Paul Feig and screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine. Filming is set to commence later this year.
“It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew,” Feig stated. “We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine to bring this next story to audiences.”
The Housemaid is currently in theaters.
