Take-Two CEO Discusses GTA 6 Pricing, Promises a ‘Reasonable’ Cost for Players

Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, continues to dodge questions about the price of Grand Theft Auto VI, leaving fans and interviewers alike in suspense. It’s a smart move on his part; he won’t reveal any pricing details until the official announcement is made. Yet, it’s a question that keeps coming up, and it’s hard for anyone to resist asking.

During a recent on-stage interview at an event, Zelnick was questioned about the potential pricing of GTA VI. True to form, he avoided confirming or denying concerns that the game might be priced significantly higher than the standard. Instead, he emphasized that both Rockstar and Take-Two aim to ensure that players feel they’re receiving exceptional value for their money. If they don’t, players simply won’t buy it.

“Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery,” Zelnick explained. He highlighted that the perception of value is a balance between the quality of the product and its price. Players need to feel that the game is outstanding and that the price they pay is fair.

Zelnick also touched on the idea that video games have become cheaper over time when adjusted for inflation, a point that, while technically accurate, can be frustrating for those already grappling with rising costs in other areas of life, especially when considering an $80 game.

“If you look at it through that lens, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. But that isn’t the lens through which we look. Instead, we focus on how to deliver something amazing and ensure that the price feels reasonable,” he stated.

Ultimately, Zelnick’s comments don’t provide much clarity. He’s essentially saying that the company is committed to ensuring that whatever they charge for GTA VI will be perceived as fair by consumers. This could imply they won’t push the price into the $90 or $100 range, or it might suggest that if they do, the game will be so extraordinary that players will feel it’s worth it.

Zelnick clearly aims to create a game that offers unparalleled entertainment value: “What we think about is making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth, in history—and it’s a pretty daunting challenge,” he concluded.

So, will GTA VI be the most expensive entertainment piece ever? That remains uncertain. Some speculate it could at least be the priciest video game to date. With last year’s Mario Kart World setting a precedent for $80 games, opinions among researchers and analysts are mixed on whether charging more is a wise move for Take-Two. We likely won’t have any definitive answers until this summer, when marketing ramps up for the highly anticipated open-world adventure, set to release on November 19, 2026.
