Take-Two CEO Reveals GTA 6’s $100 Edition Leads in Pre-Orders
When it was revealed that the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 would be priced at $80, some gamers thought it was a steep cost, even for such a highly anticipated title. However, as the release date approaches, it appears that many players are willing to shell out even more for Rockstar’s expansive open-world experience.
In a recent chat, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick shared that the sales of GTA 6’s standard edition aren’t matching those of the $100 Ultimate Edition. “Actually,” Zelnick noted, “it is skewing more to the premium edition.” While this is promising news for Rockstar and Take-Two, Zelnick offered a more grounded perspective on what this trend might indicate about the game’s pre-release excitement. “That might be a reflection of the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering,” he explained.
Earlier in the discussion, Zelnick acknowledged that Take-Two holds “a great deal of pricing power” with GTA 6, but emphasized the importance of ensuring the price feels justified. “We understand that a consumer experience is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for it,” he stated, adding, “We would never want people to feel like this is out of my range.” This sentiment aligns with his earlier remarks during a Take-Two earnings call, where he referred to GTA 6 as an “incredible bargain” at its standard price.
When asked about the benefits of the $100 edition, Zelnick simply mentioned, “Additional content.” The official pre-order page elaborates on this, indicating that pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition grants access to a variety of exclusive cosmetics and a free month of GTA+, the subscription service that offers perks in GTA Online. Throughout the interview, Zelnick reiterated Take-Two’s confidence in GTA 6’s success but was careful not to raise expectations too high. He referenced the company’s impressive history with GTA 5, which has sold over 200 million copies since its 2013 launch, stating that he would “never project that to occur again” for GTA 6.
GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
