Tales From the Crypt Makes Its Streaming Debut

Great news, horror fans! Starting May 1, all seven seasons of *Tales from the Crypt* will be available for streaming. The horror-centric platform Shudder is bringing this classic series back from the depths of licensing limbo.

*Tales from the Crypt Holdings* is under the control of Dark Castle Entertainment, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Walter Hill, and this marks the first time streaming rights have been granted. The announcement was made by John Kassir, the voice of the Cryptkeeper, through a new trailer unveiled at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans.

Based on the iconic EC Comics, including its namesake and titles like *Vault of Horror*, *Shock SuspenStories*, and *Haunt of Fear*, *Tales from the Crypt* dives into the macabre with its gruesome cover art featuring ax murderers and ghouls that promise spine-chilling stories. These comics, which laid the groundwork for the series, continue to be popular and are frequently reissued. Unfortunately, EC Comics publisher William Gaines had to shut down this once-thriving horror line in the late 1950s after facing public obscenity trials, accused of corrupting youth with its bloody narratives. Gaines later founded *Mad Magazine*, while horror comics persisted through other publishers like Warren, known for *Creepy* and *Eerie*.

New viewers will be thrilled by the star-studded guest appearances throughout the series, featuring a mix of beloved character actors like Amanda Plummer, Carol Kane, Tim Curry, and Catherine O’Hara, alongside big names such as Brad Pitt, Whoopi Goldberg, and Demi Moore. The show also boasts episodes directed by notable figures like Tom Hanks, Michael J. Fox, Bob Hoskins, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as horror legends like Tobe Hooper and Tom Holland.

Of course, the standout element of *Tales from the Crypt* is John Kassir’s iconic voice, delivering his signature giddy shriek over Danny Elfman’s delightfully eerie score. The series eve
