Thank Goodness Arc Raiders Isn’t in First-Person Perspective!

It’s a classic scenario in gaming: a modder tweaks a third-person game to run in first-person, leading to unexpected chaos. Sometimes the results are laughably bad, but other times, the new perspective amplifies the fear factor. This seems to be the case with Arc Raiders, where a player managed to switch the game to first-person mode, revealing a much more intense experience.

A Reddit user showcased their experiment with Arc Raiders’ console settings, forcing the game into a first-person perspective. While the visuals were a bit rough around the edges, the gameplay became significantly more terrifying, turning combat into a nail-biting affair.

Arc Raiders already presents a tough challenge, even without the added stress of PvP. The AI bots and drones can be relentless, but in third-person, players have the advantage of a broader view, allowing them to spot threats from a distance. Switch to first-person, and that advantage disappears, leading to a lot more unexpected ambushes. Given how intense the game can be already, this isn’t exactly a change many players would be eager to embrace.

However, this first-person experience is no longer accessible, as the developers have removed the in-game console. This decision comes after complaints about rampant cheating, with players exploiting commands to disable fog effects, drastically improving visibility. This gave PC players an unfair edge over console players, who couldn’t access the same advantages.

On January 10, the community manager announced on Discord that a hotfix was being implemented to eliminate the “NewConsole” command, a remnant of the game’s Unreal Engine roots that had inadvertently remained. While this will curb cheating, it also means that players will miss out on the chilling experience of first-person gameplay.
