The Alters Launches Significant Free Update Today to Reduce Game Stress
The Alters stands out not just as one of the top games of the year, but also as one of the most intense experiences. Juggling the needs of the Jans while navigating a radioactive world can be quite the challenge, but a recent update aims to ease some of that tension. During a digital showcase, 11 Bit Studios unveiled a free content update for The Alters, which is available now.
This update introduces a new storyline for players to explore, described as a “shadowy mystery only a Jan could solve. Or complicate. Or both.” Alongside this narrative addition, players can expect a variety of quality-of-life enhancements and fresh customization options.
Previously, players could only save their progress at the end of each day, but the new save system allows for more flexibility, enabling saves “during key gameplay moments.” Additionally, the new Relax Mode difficulty lets players immerse themselves in The Alters’ story without the added stress of survival mechanics and time constraints.
The Jans’ wheel-shaped space base is also receiving a visual upgrade. Players can now customize the exterior paint of each base section, and Jan’s spacesuit will feature new stylish options, including designs inspired by 11 Bit’s Frostpunk and Death Howl.
Here’s a summary of what’s included in the update:
In The Alters, players follow Jan Dolski, who finds himself stranded on a hostile planet. To escape, he must create alternate versions of himself, each with unique skills and personalities. It’s your job to ensure they cooperate and stay focused on surviving this desolate world. The game has been praised for its engaging challenges, with some noting it as a test of stress management and decision-making under pressure. The lead character, voiced by Alex Jordan, showcases an impressive performance, bringing to life 12 different Jans.
The Alters is currently available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
