The creators of the Silent Hill 2 remake are developing a new original IP, steering clear of Rule of Rose.
Bloober Team, known for their work on the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake and the ongoing Silent Hill project, is diving into a new venture. Following a teaser featuring a striking red rose that surfaced last week, speculation arose that this could hint at a remake of Punchline’s 2006 psychological horror title, Rule of Rose. This game has garnered a dedicated fanbase over the years, and considering Bloober’s successful handling of the Silent Hill series, it seemed plausible that they might be reviving another classic Japanese horror game.
However, fans of Rule of Rose will be disappointed to learn that this isn’t the case. While details about Bloober’s new project remain limited, CEO Piotr Babieno clarified over the weekend that it is not a remake.
“Nice guess, but no,” Babieno stated on LinkedIn. “It definitely doesn’t refer to any remake.”
The teaser, which can be found at a uniquely named website, showcases an image of a blood-dripping red rose alongside the phrase, “Some things never leave the walls. They only learn to wait.”
A small “play” button is positioned between the rose and the text. When activated, it emits a distorted male voice, occasionally interrupted by static.
“Thou art sick. … Invisible … flies at night. Howling storm … Has found out … Thy bed of crimson joy … Dark secret … Thy life destroyed.”
At the bottom of the page, a timer appears to be counting down to Valentine’s Day, likely signaling when players will receive more information about Bloober’s mysterious project. The rose imagery seems tied to this Valentine’s reveal, but its resemblance to the stylized rose on Rule of Rose’s cover art has understandably led fans to make connections to the 2006 game.
Whatever Bloober is crafting, it’s clear it’s not a remake, but it certainly promises to deliver a chilling experience.
