The Division 3 is shaping up to be a major title, with Ubisoft Massive aiming for it to match the success of the original looter shooter.

We don’t have a ton of details about The Division 3 just yet, but it’s definitely in the works, and one of the game’s leads has hinted that it’s going to be a significant release.

Julian Gerighty, the series executive producer, made an appearance at the New Game+ Showcase to promote the upcoming mobile spin-off, The Division Resurgence. During his time there, he addressed the long-awaited sequel to the looter shooter, especially since it’s been nearly six years since The Division 2 launched.

“The Division 3 is in production,” he confirmed. “This isn’t a secret; it’s been announced. It’s shaping up to be a monster. I can’t share much more than that, but here at Massive Entertainment, we’re working incredibly hard on something that I believe will have as much of an impact as The Division 1 did.”

In contrast to the flashy reveals of the past, like a marching band led by a panda, the announcement for The Division 3 was more subdued. A blog post from 2023 revealed that Gerighty would take the lead for the entire franchise, starting with the third installment and its spin-offs, after wrapping up his role as creative director for Star Wars Outlaws, which is set to release in the summer of 2024.

“A core focus for Gerighty is to assemble a team for Tom Clancy’s The Division 3, which will be spearheaded by Massive Entertainment, while ensuring that Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 continues to receive support,” the announcement stated.

Given that the team was only put together about a year and a half ago, it seems we might have to wait a bit longer for any substantial updates on this next chapter in the post-apocalyptic saga. It’s also uncertain if the layoffs at Massive Entertainment last year had any effect on the game’s development.

In other news, Ubisoft is reviving one of its standout concepts: The Division 2’s Survivors mode is in the works, promising an “updated take” on survival extraction with an emphasis on “clear communication and community involvement.”
