The first trailer for Dune: Part Three has dropped, teasing an even grander and more intense conclusion to the trilogy that adapts Frank Herbert’s iconic Dune series.

Check out the teaser trailer for Dune: Part Three, hitting theaters on December 18.

Denis Villeneuve returns to direct this final chapter, having helmed the previous two films. He co-wrote the script with Brian K. Vaughan, and this installment draws from Herbert’s 1969 novel, Dune Messiah, the second book in the series.

Set 17 years after the events of the last film, Dune: Part Three follows Paul Atreides, the heir to immense power, as he seeks to fulfill an ancient plan to create a superbeing ruler among humanity, rather than in the heavens.

Timothée Chalamet reprises his role as Paul, and Jason Momoa is back, which may raise eyebrows for those who saw the first film but makes sense for readers of the books. The returning cast also includes Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlotte Rampling. Newcomers Isaach de Bankolé and Robert Pattinson join this already impressive ensemble.

Villeneuve described the film as a shift in tone: “If the first [Dune] was more of a contemplation, like a movie of a boy exploring a new world, and the second one being a war movie, this one is a thriller. It’s a more action-packed and more tense film, more muscular than the two others, I will say.”
