The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Set to Arrive on Switch 2 in the Future

In a recent Nintendo Direct packed with nostalgic ports, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered made its appearance. While it may seem like a classic, this remaster is actually a year old, as it’s Bethesda’s updated version of the original game that launched two decades ago, now set to arrive on the Switch 2 sometime in 2026.

The latest entry in the Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim, had its own remastered edition (the Anniversary Edition) released on the Switch 2 last December. Oblivion, which was unexpectedly announced and released on April 22, 2025, will now join Skyrim on Nintendo’s latest console. However, it’s surprising that a specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet. Many were anticipating an “available later today” moment during the Partner Showcase when it was announced.

This uncertainty might stem from the fact that Oblivion Remastered has struggled to run smoothly on both PS5 and Xbox nearly a year post-launch. As a longtime PC gamer, I can’t help but find a bit of amusement in console players experiencing the notorious quirks of Bethesda games firsthand. It seems the developers might be focused on resolving these issues before bringing it to the less powerful Switch 2. The gameplay showcased today didn’t exactly impress in some areas.

Nonetheless, if it launches in good shape, it will be fantastic to have this expansive RPG available on a handheld console. While the Oblivion gates could be a bit tedious, the game itself is a classic that deserves to be enjoyed in as many formats as possible. It’s just unfortunate that we’re left in the dark about its release date!
