The Far Cry TV series is bringing together an impressive cast, with Steve Buscemi joining the lineup.
The upcoming TV series inspired by the Far Cry video game franchise has just added another big name to its roster. FX announced that Steve Buscemi, known for his roles in Fargo and Reservoir Dogs, will join the cast alongside previously confirmed actors Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Lizzy Caplan from Cloverfield.
While details about Buscemi’s character remain under wraps, his involvement adds significant star power to the FX series, which is being developed by McElhenney and executive producer Noah Hawley, the mind behind acclaimed series like Fargo and Alien: Earth. FX has stated that the limited series will maintain Far Cry’s hallmark of standalone storytelling, with each season set in a different location and featuring a new cast of characters.
Far Cry will be available on FX and Hulu, as well as on Disney Plus for international viewers. The announcement for the series came in November 2025, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
“Working with Noah Hawley is a dream come true,” McElhenney expressed when the series was announced. “Ubisoft has been incredibly generous in allowing us to explore one of the most iconic video game worlds ever created.”
Hawley shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “What I love about the Far Cry franchise is its anthology nature. Each game presents a variation on a theme, much like each season of Fargo. Creating a dynamic action show that evolves each year while delving into the complexities of humanity through a chaotic lens is an exciting opportunity. I’m thrilled to collaborate with Rob and bring our unique vision to life.”
The latest installment in the Far Cry series, Far Cry 6, was released in 2021, featuring Giancarlo Esposito as the villainous Antón. The franchise is celebrated for its blend of violence and madness, all while delivering engaging, politically charged narratives.
Buscemi boasts an impressive 40-year career with numerous notable acting credits. Beyond his film roles in Reservoir Dogs, Fargo, and The Big Lebowski, he has made a significant impact on television with appearances in The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and 30 Rock. Recently, he starred in the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday and will be featured this fall in Wild Horse Nine, directed by Martin McDonagh.
Get ready for a wild ride filled with chaos and madness from the creators who know how to deliver it!
