The latest Fire Emblem title has just launched on Nintendo Switch.
2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Fire Emblem enthusiasts. Not only is Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave—potentially a sequel or prequel to Fire Emblem: Three Houses—slated for release, but fans can also dive into one of the franchise’s classic gems on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Thanks to Nintendo’s GameCube offerings on Nintendo Classics, players can now experience Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. However, this title is exclusively available to Nintendo Switch 2 users who subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. If you’re not a member yet, you’ll need to sign up to access this beloved strategy RPG.
Originally launched on the GameCube in 2005, Path of Radiance takes place on the continent of Tellius and follows the mercenary Ike. The story kicks off when the Beorc nation of Daein invades Crimea, abducting Princess Elincia. Ike and his allies embark on a quest to rally support and liberate Crimea from Daein’s oppressive rule. Throughout their journey, they also confront deep-seated racial tensions and historical grievances between the shapeshifting Laguz and the Beorcs.
Path of Radiance quickly established itself as one of the standout titles in the Fire Emblem series, thanks to its compelling narrative and groundbreaking features, including fully-voiced cutscenes and 3D maps. While it may not have revolutionized the strategy RPG genre, it executed its story and gameplay elements with remarkable finesse. This excellence led to a sequel, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, released on the Wii in 2007.
As Nintendo Classics continues to expand its library of classic titles, adding Path of Radiance is a fantastic choice. Here’s hoping we won’t have to wait too long for its sequel to make its way to modern consoles as well.
