The LCD version of the Steam Deck has been completed.
The most budget-friendly Steam Deck, the $399 LCD model, is currently unavailable in the US and, according to the Steam Deck site, it won’t be returning. A note beneath the model listings states:
> We are no longer producing the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model. Once sold out, it will no longer be available.
And indeed, it’s out of stock on the US site.
Valve’s choice to discontinue the Steam Deck LCD is a letdown for many. This means the cheapest option now is the 512GB OLED model, priced at $549, which is a significant jump from the previous entry-level model.
We’ve reached out to Valve for clarification but haven’t received a response yet. Without an official statement, we can only speculate on the reasons behind the discontinuation of the Steam Deck LCD. Andy Hales from Windows Central points out that increasing RAM and storage costs (thanks to AI) may have made it challenging to maintain that price point for a handheld device.
The PC gaming handheld market has grown considerably since the Steam Deck launched in 2022, but it’s unclear if other brands like Lenovo, ASUS, or GPD can fill the gap left by the entry-level model.
