The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Confirmed for Release This Year
The rumors are spot on: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a complete remake for the Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s set to launch later this year.
Today’s reveal was brief, featuring a trailer that narrated the game’s opening setup: Hyrule, a small forest at the kingdom’s edge, and the Kokiri who live there with their fairies—except for one boy without a fairy. That boy is, of course, Link! We catch a glimpse of young Link dozing off as the Triforce symbol glows on his hand, followed by the logo reveal. And that’s all we got!
You might wonder what else there is to know. It’s Ocarina of Time! But I have questions! I’m eager to see more of Link in this new art style, which seems reminiscent of Twilight Princess rather than any recent Zelda title. I’m curious if they’ll revamp combat and enhance the camera and targeting mechanics. I want to know if Navi will still be just the right amount of annoying, and I’m really interested in whether this remake will stick closely to the original or introduce new elements. And while I’m dreaming, can we get a Majora’s Mask remake next?
Remaking Ocarina of Time is no small feat. It’s hailed as one of the greatest games ever, so expectations will be sky-high. Following the success of the three-part Final Fantasy 7 remake, there’s a lot of pressure on Nintendo to nail this. While they’ve made efforts to modernize their classics with ports and remasters, the look of Link in the teaser suggests a complete ground-up recreation.
Having just experienced Ocarina for the first time this year, I can confidently say it deserves this remake. It’s an incredible game, but it has been overshadowed over the years by its successors. I’m sure many share my excitement for more, and the good news is we likely won’t have to wait long. If it’s launching by year’s end, we can expect a holiday release, probably before Black Friday. This means we might see actual gameplay footage in the coming months after they wrap up Star Fox. And if Nintendo wants to keep this release separate from its other titles, Ocarina of Time could be the only game daring enough to face off against GTA VI in November…
Okay, I might be getting ahead of myself with speculation, but I’m just really eager to see more of Ocarina of Time.
