The Lord of the Rings to Launch in Stunning 4K in 2026
The Lord of the Rings is making a grand return to physical media this fall, giving fans a chance to bring a piece of Middle-earth into their homes just as the franchise gears up for its next big chapter.
Amazon MGM Studios and Alliance Home Entertainment have revealed that the first two seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD in November. These sets will feature behind-the-scenes bonus content, and collectors will have an additional option later in the year.
In December, both seasons will also be available as Amazon-exclusive 4K Ultra HD gift sets, complete with Steelbook packaging and collectible art cards. This timing is perfect, as the third season of The Rings of Power is set to premiere on Prime Video just days after the standard physical editions hit the shelves.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 launched on Prime Video in September 2022, followed by season 2 in August 2024. The series has quickly become one of the streaming platform’s most popular shows, amassing over 185 million viewers worldwide.
Season 3 will delve deeper into Middle-earth’s conflict with Sauron, showcasing the Dark Lord as he recruits men who will eventually become the Nazgûl. Although he has yet to forge the One Ring, there remains a wealth of Tolkien mythology for the series to explore.
One particularly captivating storyline will focus on Elrond and his long-lost twin brother, Elros. Robert Aramayo, who portrays Elrond, will also take on the role of Elros in a flashback that depicts the moment the brothers choose their divergent paths: Elrond embraces immortality, while Elros opts for mortality and becomes the founder of Númenor.
This choice will significantly affect Elrond when he visits Númenor in the present, confronting the kingdom his brother built during his mortal life. The series will also finally introduce Rivendell, adding another iconic element of Tolkien’s world to the narrative.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 is set to premiere on Prime Video on Nov. 11, with subsequent episodes releasing through Nov. 25. Seasons 1 and 2 will be available on disc starting Nov. 3, with the Amazon 4K Steelbook arriving on Dec. 1.
Additionally, a first look at the latest version of the Dark Lord Sauron has been shared.
