The Moto Razr and Razr Plus Experience Shrinkflation Effects

The memory crisis strikes again, and this time, Motorola’s midrange and budget flip phones are feeling the pinch. The 2026 Razr Plus now retails for $1,099, a $100 increase from its predecessor, yet it offers minimal upgrades to justify the price hike.

This model still packs the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset, which is now two years old, along with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The battery has seen a notable upgrade, moving from a 4,000mAh capacity to 4,500mAh, which is a solid improvement.

However, that’s where the enhancements largely end. The main camera setup remains the same, but Motorola has replaced the previous 50-megapixel 2x telephoto lens with a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens. This change makes sense; while you can crop to achieve a decent 2x photo, nothing beats the versatility of a wider lens. The color options have also been reduced from two to just one: a deep green called mountain view with a woven texture, which I find more appealing than last year’s mocha mousse and hot pink.

The entry-level 2026 Razr is priced at $799 and comes with less storage than its predecessor, offering only 128GB instead of 256GB. On the upside, it gets a slight chip upgrade to the Dimensity 7450X from the 7400X found in the 2025 Razr. The ultrawide camera has also been upgraded from a 13-megapixel sensor to a 50-megapixel one. All three Razr models are IP48-rated, providing protection against water immersion but not against dust.

The standard Razr meets MIL-STD 810H standards, ensuring durability in extreme temperatures, humidity, and against drops. It also sees a modest battery capacity increase from 4,500mAh to 4,800mAh. As with last year, the entry-level Razr offers a variety of colors and textured finishes, including a “woven-inspired” hematite that feels surprisingly rubbery and a striking bright white. Preorders will start on May 14th, with sales kicking off on May 21st.
