The new Lego Yoda set from Star Wars is both impressive and a bit unsettling.
Lego and Star Wars have teamed up to introduce a new set: a Lego Yoda bust featuring a block lightsaber and a touch of the uncanny. This 399-piece set is set to launch on April 26, priced at $39.99. While it boasts some cool features, those eyes are hard to ignore.
The Yoda bust comes with a buildable lightsaber, a smaller version of previous standalone sabers, which Yoda can hold—or you can leave it out if you prefer a more laid-back look. You can also adjust his ears and head to convey different emotions. Additionally, a small, classic Yoda figure is included to sit on the bust’s base or anywhere else you think could use a tiny Jedi master. A nameplate is also provided, just in case you forget who he is. Standing about eight inches tall and four inches wide, this Yoda is designed to fit nicely into any empty spot in your home, and there’s no Smart Play feature to worry about.
However, there’s no escaping those deep, unsettling eyes. Lego describes the bust as a representation of the iconic character from Attack of the Clones, but it leans more towards a quirky vibe reminiscent of Who Framed Roger Rabbit than the Star Wars universe. The eyes also evoke a hint of the eerie animatronics from Five Nights at Freddy’s, so potential buyers should be cautious.
The design choice is a bit peculiar, especially considering Lego’s larger 1,700-piece Yoda set, which features normal eyes and adjustable eyelids for a range of expressions. In comparison, Lego’s Spider-Man bust and the newly revealed Darth Vader bust appear much more conventional. Of course, one is masked and the other is helmeted—perhaps they too harbor unseen traumas that haunt them.
