The Outer Worlds is set to be removed from digital storefronts, but there’s a twist.
The original version of The Outer Worlds will be removed from PC and current-gen consoles on May 27. Fortunately, the fantastic sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment isn’t disappearing entirely. The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition will still be available and is set to receive significant updates.
On April 30, a post on Steam detailed the upcoming enhancements for Spacer’s Choice Edition. It hinted at the content of these updates while confirming that the original version of The Outer Worlds will be delisted on specific platforms. The base version will still be purchasable on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, but players on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X will only have access to Spacer’s Choice Edition after May 27.
Due to these changes, the price of The Outer Worlds will drop to $24.99 on PS4 and Xbox One, with each DLC also reduced to $14.99. Players who already own the base game and its DLC will receive a free upgrade to Spacer’s Choice Edition, while new players can grab it for $39.99.
Although this delisting process may be a bit confusing, Obsidian is making the transition smoother by rolling out two new updates for Spacer’s Choice Edition. The first, Patch 2.5.7.0, is already live and primarily addresses bugs and improves user interface clarity.
A second update is scheduled for later in May, introducing grenades as a new weapon type and implementing unspecified enhancements to performance, lighting, and gameplay. With these updates and the removal of the 2019 version from storefronts, Obsidian is clearly positioning Spacer’s Choice Edition as the definitive way to experience The Outer Worlds moving forward.
