The revamped Commodore 64 is receiving a nostalgic redesign.

The team behind the C64 Ultimate, a modern take on the classic ‘80s personal computer that utilizes an FPGA chip for precise emulation, has unveiled a new version that builds on its predecessor. The original Commodore 64 launched in 1982, followed by the Commodore 64C in 1986, which maintained the same functionality but sported a sleeker design and updated color scheme. The new Commodore 64C Ultimate follows this trend, offering a fresh look without introducing any new features.

To ensure the C64C is a true homage to the original, the creators have reclaimed the exact injection molds used for the original plastic casing from four decades ago. The C64C Ultimate even showcases subtle semi-circular marks on its shell, a result of uneven cooling during the molding process, adding a layer of authenticity that would be difficult to replicate.

Similar to the C64 Ultimate, the C64C Ultimate comes equipped with modern upgrades such as Wi-Fi, USB, and an HDMI port for easy connection to contemporary displays. It also retains the original ports from the 1986 model, allowing compatibility with vintage peripherals like floppy disk and cassette drives. Preorders are now open, starting at $299.99, with shipping anticipated as early as September. For those looking for enhanced features, premium versions with LED lighting, a translucent case, and gold keycaps are available for up to $499.99.
