The Reviver of the Predator Franchise Is Set to Direct a Sleeping Beauty Film
Director Dan Trachtenberg, known for revitalizing the sci-fi franchise, is reportedly stepping away from the Predator series to focus on a different Disney property, and it’s not Star Wars or Alien. Instead, Trachtenberg is set to develop and direct a new film inspired by the classic animated tale, Sleeping Beauty.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Trachtenberg is collaborating with TV writer Rayna McClendon on a fresh concept that aims to take the story in a completely new direction. The screenplay will be penned by Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf, with Trachtenberg at the helm. The untitled Sleeping Beauty project is expected to retain the unique flair characteristic of his previous works.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, insiders have indicated that this upcoming film will not be connected to Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent films.
This marks an interesting shift for Trachtenberg, who successfully brought the Predator franchise back into the spotlight with his acclaimed Hulu film, Prey, in 2022. He followed that success with two additional well-received projects in the Predator universe: the theatrical release Predator: Badlands and the Hulu animated anthology Predator: Killers of Killers. Many fans were eager for him to continue exploring the Predator saga, but it appears Disney, which owns Fox and the Predator series, has other plans for the talented director.
Now, the burning question is how many gruesome moments will unfold in Trachtenberg’s upcoming Sleeping Beauty film. However, it may be a while before we find out, as he is currently in pre-production on an undisclosed, non-Predator project for Paramount.
