The sequel to the Minecraft movie has been revealed, and the title is perfectly suited.
During a showcase at TwitchCon Europe, Mojang revealed that the sequel to the Minecraft movie will be titled A Minecraft Movie Squared. This name perfectly aligns with the square-based voxel style that defines the Minecraft universe. A brief behind-the-scenes video was shared, featuring actors Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Danielle Brooks discussing their filming experiences in New Zealand. They hinted at the inclusion of new biomes and mobs from the game, while new cast members Matt Berry and Kirsten Dunst also introduced themselves.
Mojang launched a build challenge for A Minecraft Movie Squared, inviting players to create and submit unique builds until June 8 for a chance to be featured in the film. Only the winning build will make it into the final cut, but other finalists will enjoy private screenings of the movie. Additionally, players can earn a builder cape cosmetic by watching Minecraft on Twitch or TikTok until June 14. The sequel is set to hit theaters on July 23, 2027.
While the title reveal for A Minecraft Movie Squared was the highlight of the latest showcase, it wasn’t the only news. Mojang also unveiled upcoming game updates, including Chaos Cubed, which will introduce a sulfur cave biome and sulfur cube mob on June 16. Following that, Drop 3 will arrive later this year, adding the dappled forest biome.
The development team for Minecraft Dungeons 2 showcased concept art for new biomes and the Deep Dark’s Twisted Warden boss. Although gameplay hasn’t been revealed yet, the game is still on track for a 2026 release. The Twisted Warden will also be getting its own Lego Minecraft figure, along with Lego chicken mounts making their way into the main Minecraft game.
With all the announcements from the showcase, it’s evident that Mojang and Microsoft are committed to keeping the franchise fresh and engaging for players leading up to the release of A Minecraft Movie Squared.
