“The Strangers – Chapter 3 Actor Responds to Criticism of Earlier Chapters: ‘They’re Not Finished Films!'”

Madelaine Petsch, the star of the new Strangers trilogy, has addressed concerns that the first two chapters felt incomplete, expressing hope that Chapter 3 will provide the closure horror fans crave.

“In the first two films, the main feedback I got was that they didn’t feel like complete movies,” Petsch shared in an interview. “The truth is, they aren’t finished! They represent the first two acts of a larger narrative. It’s a unique approach, where viewers are promised three parts that have already been filmed, but we’re not wrapping up each one.”

Directed by Renny Harlin, known for Deep Blue Sea, the Strangers trilogy aims to weave a continuous story across three feature-length films. The first installment, The Strangers – Chapter 1, released in 2024, served as a reboot of the 2008 original. The second film, which came out in 2025, took a different direction by following the final girl after the attack, drawing her deeper into the Strangers’ world.

Fans felt the first two movies were left hanging due to their cliffhanger endings. While Petsch acknowledges that this style of conclusion “might not be as satisfying as what audiences typically expect,” she anticipates that Chapter 3 will leave viewers feeling, “Okay, I got the satisfaction I’m looking for… hopefully!”

The trilogy’s release has faced challenges, with all three films initially slated for release just months apart. However, delays and reshoots led to Chapter 2 debuting a year after Chapter 1. The critical reception for the first two films was also lukewarm, with Chapter 1 earning a 21% score on Rotten Tomatoes and Chapter 2 dropping to 15%.

In The Strangers – Chapter 3, Maya confronts the Strangers one final time. With the killers revealed and Pin Up Girl out of the picture, it appears the Strangers want Maya to join their ranks. Fans will have to wait to see which path she chooses. The film also features Gabriel Basso and Ema Horvath.

The Strangers – Chapter 3 is set to hit theaters on February 6.
