The stunning Paddington stage show is making its way to the U.S.

Paddington Bear is making his way to Broadway! Universal Music UK has announced that Paddington: The Musical will debut at New York City’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 30, 2027. Tickets are currently available, starting at $69. A teaser featuring the irresistibly charming Paddington puppet arriving at Ellis Island has also been released, accompanied by the tagline, “New York, please look after this bear.” We couldn’t agree more.

The musical first premiered last November at the Savoy Theatre in London, receiving widespread acclaim and winning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical. It also took home six additional awards, including Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Costume Design, tying the record for the most wins by a musical in Olivier Award history. The music and lyrics were crafted by Tom Fletcher, a member of the band McFly, while Jessica Swale penned the script. This production draws inspiration from the beloved A Bear Called Paddington book series by Michael Bond, as well as StudioCanal’s 2014 Paddington film.

For those who may not know this delightful character, Paddington is a kind-hearted bear from Peru who travels to Britain after losing his parents. He’s known for his politeness, friendliness, and an insatiable love for marmalade. The musical will chronicle his journey from the moment he is welcomed by the Browns, only to find himself pursued by a vengeful villain, sparking a thrilling rescue mission.

In addition to the book series, which has sold over 35 million copies globally, the Paddington film trilogy has kept this lovable bear in the spotlight. Each film has garnered critical acclaim, celebrated for its charm and heartfelt message of acceptance. They’ve also been box office successes, with the first film grossing over $300 million, the second $290 million, and the third $211 million. A fourth film is currently in the works, with Veep’s Armando Iannuci and Simon Blackwell writing the script, and Dougal Wilson returning to direct. There’s plenty more marmalade-filled adventures ahead!
