The upcoming Castlevania game aims to break the Switch trend.
When Konami first revealed Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Nintendo Switch fans were left feeling a bit sidelined. The game was set to launch on all other platforms on October 15, but the Switch version was slated for a later release in 2026. However, there’s some exciting news for Switch players.
The official Japanese Castlevania X account has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch version of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will now also launch on October 15. This means that, contrary to earlier announcements, Switch users will be able to dive into the game alongside players on other platforms. Other official Konami social media channels have echoed this update, indicating that the new release date applies globally.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse was unveiled during the February 2026 State of Play event. This marks the first new entry in the franchise in over a decade, following the release of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 back in 2014. While Konami has rolled out several remasters and collections in recent years, fans have been eagerly awaiting a full-fledged return of the series. The resurgence of Metroidvanias, fueled by indie hits like 2017’s Hollow Knight and this year’s MIO: Memories in Orbit, makes the timing of Belmont’s Curse particularly exciting for the genre.
The game is being developed by Evil Empire, known for Dead Cells and The Rogue Prince of Persia, with oversight from Motion Twin, the team behind Dead Cells. Given that Dead Cells is often hailed as one of the best indie Metroidvanias, the franchise is certainly in capable hands. The announcement trailer showcased the game’s 2D action-platforming style, reminiscent of classic Castlevania titles, especially Symphony of the Night and the Game Boy Advance games.
Set two decades after Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, Belmont’s Curse follows Rose Belmont, the daughter of series hero Trevor Belmont, as she embarks on a quest to save medieval Paris from a demonic threat. Armed with the legendary “Vampire Killer” whip, which has become a hallmark of the series, Rose is ready to take on the challenge.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is set to launch on October 15, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
